Streetscape

Decorative Fence

A decorative iron fence will begin at the south end of the Park, will continue northward past the elementary school and end on the far side of the firehouse with access to the fields and Park structures along the way.

Brick columns will be capped with Pennsylvania bluestone, with downward sidewalk lighting that will enhance safety for pedestrians.

Because Ely Park is physically separated from the majority of the residential neighborhoods by Route 29, a state highway, the foreseen increased use of the park will require safer crossings. Representatives of the Friends of Ely Park have been in discussion with the Department of Transportation who has jurisdiction over this roadway, to address this design issue and potential funding for its improvement.

The enclosure will cost $75,000 to complete.  To begin the streetscape improvement project, the Friends of Ely Park are soliciting donations in the amount of $5,000.  Your donation will serve to construct one column and the adjoining fencing.  In addition, your section of the wall will contain a bronze plaque acknowledging your generous donation.
