As there currently is no defined entrance to Ely Memorial Park, the new design will create an attractive and welcoming entrance next to the angled parking at Perry Street and a plaza at the current Snack Shack. The Snack Shack Plaza will have a bluestone capped brick seat wall, plantings for shade and aesthetic value, a drinking fountain and ample space around the current refreshment/bathroom structure with steps and ramps to the adjacent fields.
Ely Memorial Park’s two recreation fields—one for baseball, the other for football and softball—are currently its greatest draw. Plans call for creating new dugouts for the teams with roofs and lighting. There will also be new bleachers built into the slope for the baseball field. These improvements will make these ball fields more useable for other community events including outdoor movies, lectures, performances, and picnics.
